State Bar Board Approves Testing Sites, Vendor for July Exam
By a MetNews Staff Writer
State Bar Board of Trustees yesterday approved locations and testing software to be used for the in-person July 2025 California Bar Exam.
The board decided to enter into an agreement with ExamSoft, a firm that provided similar services to the state regulatory body for two decades, to provide software for the test. Members also authorized site locations in Anaheim, Chula Vista, Oakland, Ontario, Pasadena, Roseville, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco.
Each approval is conditioned upon receiving authorization by the Committee of Bar Examiners (“CBE”) at its next meeting, scheduled for April 8.
Also at its meeting, the board heard public comment from those who took the troubled February exam and experienced a range of issues—from technological failures to typos in the multiple-choice questions—during the rollout of a remote testing option.
After the issues with the examination, the California Supreme Court ordered a return to traditional in-person testing for July.
Trustees discussed, but postponed, a vote on the CBE’s recommendation to expand a program for provisional licensure as one remedy for applicants dissatisfied with the February exam.
