Craig J. Mitchell to Retire From Superior Court
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Craig J. Mitchell, who opted to run in the March 5 primary for district attorney rather than seeking reelection as a Los Angeles Superior Court judge, has decided not serve the balance of his term on the bench which ends Jan. 6, 2025.
His retirement date is May 1.
Mitchell came in tenth in a field of 12 candidates for district attorney, receiving three percent of the vote.
He was appointed to the bench in 2005 by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Mitchell was, at the time, a deputy district attorney, a position he held for 11 years.
For 17 years, he was a school teacher before receiving his law degree in 1991 from Southwestern, and spent two years in private practice.
