Los Angeles County Deputy Public Defender Jennell Mimm, who has held her post since 2008, has been elected by judges of the Los Angeles Superior Court as a court commissioner.
Ballots were tallied Wednesday by Judges Deborah L. Christian, Daniel S. Murphy, and Stephen P. Pfahler.
Mimm was next in line on a list of eligible applicants compiled by a court selection committee.
A blurb distributed to judges, provided by the candidate in support of her candidacy, reads:
“She is currently assigned to felonies in the Compton Branch where she is an encouraging force in the office. She uses her positive attitude and boundless energy to inspire others to work hard and stay motivated. Jennell is also an active member of the Black Public Defenders Association, where she has served as Secretary and Vice-President.”
It adds:
“As one to never shy from challenging the development of her analytical skills and expansion of her horizons and sphere of influence, she attended Loyola Law School, thus beginning her legal career.”
Mimm has been an adjunct professor at Pacific Coast University School of Law in Long Beach. That online school is not accredited by the American Bar Association and is classified by the State Bar of California as an “unaccredited distance learning law school.”
