By a MetNews Staff Writer

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney General Nathan Hochman announced yesterday that he has raised more than $2 million in his campaign for the office of Los Angeles County district attorney, the highest sum garnered by any of the 12 candidates.

Hochman, a former president of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, said the money comes from more than 1,500 individual donors from both major political parties and from independents.

The candidate commented:

“I am overwhelmed and inspired by the growing support for my campaign from all parts of this county, from people with an array of political beliefs and economic means. These supporters have one thing in common: They are tired of [incumbent George] Gascon’s policies, which have made them feel less safe than they did three years ago, and they want change.”

The press release declares that this “is a clear sign that the public overwhelmingly supports Hochman’s effort to get politics out of the D.A.’s Office, eliminate [incumbent George] Gascon’s pro-criminal policies and begin holding criminals accountable for their actions.”

Candidates in the March 5 primary, in addition to Gascón and Hochman, are Los Angeles Superior Court Judges Debra Archuleta and Craig J. Mitchell, Deputy District Attorneys Jonathan Hatami, John McKinney, Maria Ramirez, Eric Siddall, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Chemerinsky of the Central District of California, San Bernardino Deputy District Attorney Lloyd “Bobcat” Masson, criminal defense attorney Dan Kapelovitz, and retired Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Milton.

Milton, who served on the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1987-92 and on the Los Angeles Superior Court from 1995-2014, is referred to on his website and in campaign materials as “Judge David Milton” although he is no longer a judge. The website identifies him as “A Judeo Christian who stands with Israel’s right to exercise self-defense!”

While Chemerinsky is running for the nonpartisan office as a Democrat, Milton is billing himself as “The ONLY Republican Candidate for District Attorney.
