Members of the Los Angeles Superior Court are sending out a message not to bother mounting challenges to judges who are up for election this year, announcing on Friday that their political action committee has raised “about” $300,000, with more than 300 judges contributing.
“This amount continues to grow every month,” a statement warns potential challengers.
Judge Dean H. Hansell, who chairs the Los Angeles Judges Political Action Committee (“LAJ-PAC”), commented:
“Support runs deep within the L.A. judiciary to assist a judge who is challenged in a retention election. Our commitment to an impartial judiciary dedicates us to support any colleague who receives an election challenge.”
The statement also says:
“One of the important goals of LAJ-PAC is to educate the public and provide complete and accurate information about the courts, judges and lawful judicial decisions made by judges. In addition, the goal of LAJ-PAC is to safeguard the impartiality of the courts and judges against incorrect information, misleading reports and/or false information.”
