Board of Supervisors Approves $300,000 Payment to DDA

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors yesterday approved the settlement of a sexual harassment claim by a deputy district attorney for $300,000.
Receiving the payment will be Karen Nishita who was allegedly harassed while in the Health Care Fraud unit of the District Attorney’s Office by her then-supervisor, Edward Miller, who was assistant head deputy.
He is now a filing deputy in El Monte following a 17-month suspension. Miller is reportedly appealing to the county Civil Service Commission. his demotion from a Grade 4 to Grade 3.
Neither Nishita nor Miller responded to requests for comment.
The county paid out $700,000 in 2017 to settle the sexual harassment complaints by Deputy District Attorneys Beth Silverman and Tannaz Mokayef. The supervisor they accused, Gary Hearnsberger, retired.
