Courts and Law Library Announce Holiday Schedules

 

The United States District Court for the Central District will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Days, and open on a limited basis on the days before the holidays.

On Monday, Dec. 24, court staff in the clerk’s offices in Los Angeles, Santa Ana and Riverside will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accept filings for emergency matters only in the Intake Section.

The court will remain open for criminal duty only in Los Angeles.

Regular service following the Christmas closing will resume on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

The Los Angeles Superior Court will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Los Angeles Law Library’s main facility downtown will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Branch libraries will be closed on Dec. 25 and Dec. 31.

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California has revised its Local Bankruptcy Rules, effective Jan. 2, the court announced yesterday.

The revised rules can be found on the court’s website, www.cacb.uscourts.gov, on the Local Bankruptcy Rules webpage under the Rules and Procedures tab.

A redlined version of the rules showing the revisions, and a summary of the changes titled Summary of Revisions to Local Bankruptcy Rules Effective January 2, 2013, are also available on the Local Bankruptcy Rules webpage.

The California Bar Foundation, which describes itself as the center of philanthropy for California’s legal profession, this week announced the appointment of seven new attorneys to its board of directors, along with the reappointment of 10 currently serving board members.

The appointments take effect Jan. 1.

Current board member Frederick Brown, a partner at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in San Francisco, will become president of the board.

Current members Raj Chatterjee, a partner with Morrison Foerster in San Francisco, and Dianne Baquet Smith, a partner with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton in Los Angeles, become vice-presidents.

New board member Paul Tepper of the Western Center on Law and Poverty of Los Angeles will serve as secretary.

Current board member David C. Grove, founder and managing partner of Vaquero Capital in San Francisco, will serve another term as treasurer.

Other current board members reappointed for an additional two-year term are: Ron Blanc, partner with Arnold & Porter in Los Angeles; Dean Hansell, partner with Hogan Lovells in Los Angeles; Robert Infelise, partner with Cox Castle & Nicholson in San Francisco; Paul Konovolov, counsel with Latham & Watkins in Costa Mesa; and Joan Kupersmith Larkin, partner with Seyfarth Shaw in Los Angeles.

In addition to Tepper, new board members include: Manuel Medrano, an Emmy-award winning broadcast journalist and principal of the Medrano & Carlton law firm in Los Angeles; Dawn Collins, a shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Los Angeles office; Sergio Garcia, senior vice-president and general counsel with the medical device manufacturer ZELTIQ Aesthetics; Clothilde Hewlett, a partner in Nossaman LLP’s San Francisco office; Susan Jamison, a partner with Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass in San Francisco; Eric Casher, an associate at Meyers Nave’s Oakland office; Ana de Alba, an associate at Lang, Richert and Patch in Fresno; and Mary Ann Todd, a partner with Munger Tolles & Olson in Los Angeles.

Members of the foundation’s board of directors are appointed by the Board of Trustees of the State Bar of California.

The foundation said it welcomes nominations for positions on the 2014-2015 board.  Further information and applications will be posted on the foundation’s website, www.calbarfoundation.org, in May. The deadline for applications is August.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stuart M. Rice and attorney George Bird will be honored at the South Bay Bar Association’s Judges Night and Installation of Officers & Directors Dinner, to be held at the Palos Verdes Country Club on Jan. 25, the group said in a release.

Rice is the association’s 2012 Honorable William E. MacFaden Award Recipient, while Bird has been named its Lawyer of the Year.

The black-tie event starts at 6:00 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. dinner, and reservations are required.

The cost to attend is $125 per person.

The Palos Verdes Country Club is located at 3301 Via Campesina in Palos Verdes Estates.
