Brown Fills Two Bay Area Superior Court Judgeships
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Gov. Brown yesterday named two new superior court judges in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Contra Costa Assistant Public Defender Terri A. Mockler, 54, was named to the Contra Costa Superior Court. She has worked for the Public Defender’s Office in that county since 1985, having previously worked as a deputy public defender in Tulare and Solano counties.
Mockler is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Hastings College of the Law. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Peter A. Berger.
Alameda Superior Court Commissioner Charles A. Smiley, 44, was named a judge of that court. He has been a commissioner since 2007, and was an Alameda deputy public defender for 10 years before that.
He was also an associate adjunct professor at Hastings, of which he is an alumnus, from 2004 to 2007. His undergraduate degree is from UC Berkeley.
He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Paul D. Fogel.
Mockler is a Democrat. Smiley is registered decline-to-state.
