Governor Names Fred
Hiestand to Alcoholic Beverage Control Board

Gov.
Jerry Brown yesterday named prominent Sacramento lawyer Fred Hiestand to the
Alcoholic Beverage Control Appeals Board.
Hiestand,
69, has been president of Fred J. Hiestand APC since 1978. He is also the
general counsel and top appellate lawyer for the Civil Justice Association of
California, a tort reform group, which he frequently represents before the
state Supreme Court.
He
was an attorney at Coppelman and Hiestand from 1974 to 1977, at Public
Advocates from 1972 to 1974 and at California Rural Legal Assistance from 1968
to 1972. He advised Brown on medical liability issues during Brown’s first
tenure as governor.
Hiestand
earned a law degree from UC Berkeley.
This
position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $25,500. Hiestand
is a Democrat.
