Davis Wright Tremaine LLP yesterday announced the addition of intellectual property attorney James D. Nguyen as a partner in its Los Angeles office.

He makes the move from Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon LLP in Beverly Hills.

Mary H. Haas, partner-in-charge of Davis Wright Tremaine’s Los Angeles office, predicted that Nguyen’s practice will blend seamlessly with the team of lawyers in the office.

“The ‘perfect match’ cliché applies here,” Haas said, explaining that the office’s “core strengths are our IP work and our counseling, transactional and litigation work for media and entertainment companies,” which are areas in which Nguyen “excels.”

Nguyen’s practice involves a range of intellectual property, new media, entertainment, advertising, technology, and privacy matters, according to a firm release. His past clients include LEGO Systems, Kia Motors America Inc., and Major League Baseball Properties, Inc.

The attorney joined the State Bar in 1995, after attending UCLA and graduating from law school at USC at the age of 22.

He went on to become a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, where he co-founded and co-chaired that firm’s Entertainment & Media Industry Team and served as a vice-chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation practice.

Last year Nguyen became chair of the State Bar of California’s IP Law Section after serving as a long-time member of its Executive Committee. He also is a member of the Board of Directors for the California Minority Counsel Program and was CMCP’s co-chair in 2010.

The Century City Bar Association selected Ngyuen as its 2011 IP Lawyer of the Year, and he was recognized by the National LGBT Bar Association as one of the Best LGBT Lawyer under 40 in 2010.
