Harris Takes Lead in Seesaw Race for Attorney General
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris (D) took a very narrow lead over Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley (R) Friday as more vote-by-mail and provisional ballots were counted in the close contest for California attorney general.
As of 4:19 p.m., Secretary of State Debra Bowen reported, Harris had 4,044,927 votes, or 45.9 percent, to Cooley’s 4,039,351 or 45.8 percent, giving Harris a lead of 5,576 votes.
Election officials in each of the 58 counties must complete their tallies by Nov. 30 and report them to Bowen’s office by Dec. 3.
