Superior Court Judge David Mintz Loses Fight With Lung Cancer

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Mintz died yesterday after battling lung cancer.
Mintz, then 40, was elected to the Superior Court in 2000, defeating Los Angeles attorney Vicki Roberts in a runoff for the last open seat in the old Los Angeles Judicial District. He then took office as a Superior Court judge under unification, sitting in the criminal departments.
A graduate of UC Berkeley and Hastings College of the Law, he was admitted to the State Bar in 1984, then worked for the District Attorney’s Office for 15 years, and also taught trial advocacy at Pepperdine School of Law.
