Davis Appoints Lawyer Justin Sanders to Health Board

Justin H. Sanders, an associate at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, has been named by Gov. Gray Davis as a member of the Board of Trustees of the state’s new Health Professions Education Foundation.
“I just hope that I can be a catalyst for change in the state by helping as many people as I can to get access to the help they need,” Sanders said.
Sanders, 26, specializes in business litigation and business crimes. As a member of the foundation, Sanders said he will help bring health care professionals to medically under-served areas of California. He will also solicit donations to fund scholarships and student loan repayments for students and graduates who agree to practice where doctors and other medical professionals are in short supply.
While Sanders does some work on health care issues at his firm, he said his main motivation for joining the foundation was to give back to the community.
“I wasn’t interested in being on any high-profile commissions,” he said. “I wanted to make sure what I did was something service-oriented... and in a sense, the foundation gives me that platform.”
Sanders is a graduate of Morehouse College and of the USC School of Law. He is also an executive board member of the Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals and a member of the Langston Bar Association.
The governor also appointed Dr. Allen J. Berliner of Arcadia as president of the foundation. Other members of the foundation include Tessie Guillermo of San Francisco, Marcella W. Low of Los Angeles and Leticia C. Mendez of Oxnard.
