Piper Rudnick Continues Local Expansion by Adding Perrie Weiner
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Perrie M. Weiner has joined the growing Los Angeles office of Piper Rudnick, the firm has reported.
Weiner, formerly of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, specializes in securities litigation. He brings with him to the Los Angeles office Edward Totino as Of Counsel, as well as several staff members and “major institutional clients” on both coasts.
New York-based Caryn Mazin will also leave Brobeck for Piper as an associate supporting Weiner in Piper’s New York office.
“I’m pretty much tasked with building [the securities litigation] group in the Los Angeles office,” Weiner said. “I’m very excited about that, and I’m looking forward to being part of the growth in Los Angeles.”
The hire of Weiner is part of Piper’s drive to expand its one-year-old Los Angeles office drastically in the next two years, particularly with lawyers who specialize in areas of corporate law such as bankruptcy, real estate and intellectual property.
“In addition to the securities litigation experience he brings to the firm, Perrie’s experience in complex commercial litigation and toxic torts will add greatly to the ‘bench strength’ of the L.A. office,” Jeffrey Rosenfeld, managing partner in Piper’s L.A. office, said in a release.
The firm currently has 21 attorneys on the west coast and aims to add 55 to 80 more by the end of 2004. The hiring of the Brobeck lawyers comes on the heels of the Aug. 31 hiring of three partners and three associates from the recently dissolved L.A. office of Preston Gates & Ellis. That hire included litigation attorney Jane Barrett, a 30-year veteran attorney active in the legal community.
Piper specializes in business and technology law, real estate and litigation.
