Rebecca Thompson Named Partner at Gaines & Stacy in Woodland Hills
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Rebecca Thompson has made partner at the Woodland Hills real estate law firm Gaines & Stacey.
Thompson will continue to specialize her practice in real property, land use, environmental matters and related litigation.
She has gained notoriety for her expertise in environmental law issues, having been a member of the Executive Committee of the Environmental Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association since 1998, where she currently chairs the bar’s Water Quality Subcommittee.
“Rebecca is really our environmental expert,” Fred Gaines, founding and managing partner of the firm, said. “She has been very involved with clients and the bar association and is very well known on those issues.”
Thompson has published numerous opinion articles in legal newspapers along with her notable “Clean Slate” article, written with Janice Kamenir-Reznik in the November, 1996 issue of Los Angeles Lawyer magazine.
The article described the ascendance of a risk-based approach to environmental remediation, describing how the 1995 Lawrence Livermore report ushered in a new era in the regulation of petroleum-hydrocarbon cleanups, bringing unknown consequences for real property transactions.
At the time of the article, Thompson was an associate at the Encino law firm Reznik & Reznik. She later moved to the Los Angeles firm Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble & Mallory before joining Gaines & Stacey in 2000.
