Memorial Service Set for Civil Rights Champion Fred Okrand

A memorial service has been set for Sunday, April 21 for civil rights attorney Fred Okrand.
Okrand, who died March 17 at age 84 after a long illness, was best known for his work on behalf of World War II era Japanese American internees. He and his late partner, A.L. Wirin, served as special counsel to the Japanese American Citizens League.
Okrand became legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California in 1972, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1984.
The service is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Japanese American National Museum in the Little Tokyo section of downtown Los Angeles. The address is 369 E. First St.
