Growing Client List Pushes Grebow & Yee to Merge With Berger Kahn
By NICK YULICO, Staff Writer
Grebow & Yee, a Century City firm primarily representing individual mobile park owners, merged its law practice Tuesday with Berger Kahn, a diversified law firm with four offices throughout northern and southern California.
Arthur Grebow, a partner with Grebow & Yee, said his firm decided to merge with Berger Kahn because a growing list of clients had forced them to either hire more associates or merge with a larger firm.
“Berger Kahn seemed like a good fit,” Grebow said. “They do a lot of the same work we do. We share a lot of the same clients and now we’ll expand some of the work we’ll do with our clients.”
Grebow & Yee will be bringing along all their clients and staff when they move this upcoming weekend to Berger Kahn’s Marina del Rey office, Grebow said.
Grebow’s firm is recognized as one of the few experts in Southern California in complex real estate disputes involving manufactured housing community matters.
Grebow said his firm has mostly represented individual mobile home park owners in lawsuits filed against them by tenants and cities over issues such as rent control and adherence to municipal code.
Berger Kahn made headlines last September by successfully representing Southwest Airlines against a lawsuit filed by an obese woman who claimed the airline was biased when they asked her to either purchase another ticket or take a later flight due to the full capacity of the flight on which she planned to travel.
The firm offers clients a variety of legal services with specialists in employment and labor law, real estate, insurance, healthcare, corporate, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights. It has additional offices in San Francisco, San Diego and Irvine, with 80 attorneys presently on staff.
Craig Simon, managing partner of Berger Kahn, said his firm was looking forward to working with Grebow & Yee’s team of attorneys.
“Each of them is highly credentialed and their collective areas of expertise blend perfectly into our firm’s interests,” Simon said in a press release. “We were delighted when we reached an agreement to have them join Berger Kahn.”
William Yee and Julie Rubin, both experienced civil defense litigators for Grebow & Yee with highly regarded work in product liability and construction defect law, will also be making the move to Berger Kahn.
