Superior Court Commissioners Elliot, Head to Retire in March

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioners Linda Elliot and Louis Head will retire in March, the METNEWS learned yesterday.
After 13 years on the bench, Head will step down March 4. Elliott will retire March 31.
“I think I’m old enough,” the 69-year-old Head said.
His retirement plans include playing golf and traveling with his wife Karol, Head said.
“I think we’re going to Hawaii,” Head said. “I’ve never been there. Everyone else has.”
He also said he plans to spend even more time at his summer home in Michigan.
“It was quite a decision,” Head said. “It is time to get someone else younger and more enthusiastic.”
Head began his career as a high school history and English teacher and worked for the Land Department and Offshore Division of Shell Oil Co. before being admitted to the State Bar in 1965.
He joined the Los Angeles Public Defender’s Office right out of law school, working there for three years before becoming a sole practitioner.
Head spent 21 years in private practice before he was elected commissioner in 1989.
He holds an undergraduate degree in history and a masters in social sciences from the University of Redlands. He received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law.
Elliot, 61, was elected commissioner in 1984 after having served as a part-time commissioner for the now-defunct Culver Municipal Court for three years.
She served as a Los Angeles deputy district attorney, a staff attorney for the Federal Trade Commission, and as assistant house counsel for Coldwell Banker before entering private practice.
As a sole practitioner from 1978 to 1981, Elliott concentrated on criminal defense and juvenile dependency cases.
She attended Los Angeles Valley College and received her law degree from Southwestern University School of Law.
