Supreme Court Now Putting Case Information Online
By a MetNews Staff Writer
The California Supreme Court yesterday launched a new case information website, enabling the public to access information about pending cases.
The URL is http://appellatecases.courtinfo.ca.gov.
Case information searches may be initiated by Supreme Court, Court of Appeal or trial court case number or by the name of an attorney of record, a party, or the case title. Users may register to receive e-mail notification of updated case activity.
Chief Justice Ronald M. George hailed the new system.
“Today, the Supreme Court has taken another important step to provide increased public access to the court’s work,” the chief justice said in a release. “With the expansion of modern technology in the judicial branch, the court is pleased to make case information available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via the Internet.”
Detailed case information for all six Court of Appeal districts has been available online for about two years. But similar information for Supreme cases could not be made available via the Internet until a new computer system was installed, the Administrative Office of the Courts explained.
