Mackey Wins Scholarship to Attend Law, Ethics Workshop
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcom H. Mackey has been awarded a scholarship by the State Justice Institute to attend a Law and Ethics workshop next month.
The seven-day workshop, to be held in Whitefish, Mont., Aug. 18-24, will examine ethical questions arising from recent scientific breakthroughs, such as frozen-embryo issues, genetic engineering, and predicting genetic predisposition for disease, addiction and certain kinds of behavior.
Mackey, who presides at the Central Courthouse, is one of the first Los Angeles judges to attend a judicial education program on the topic.
SJI, which is funding Mackey’s attendance, is a nonprofit established by federal law to offer grants that improve the quality of justice in state courts.
